
Get to know Leslie
Dr Leslie Askew is a research fellow in organic phototransistor technology at the University of Surrey, where her work focuses on the development of advanced optoelectronic devices for bioelectronic applications. With a background in physics and electrical engineering, she has held dual PhDs from King’s College London and the University of Surrey. Her research spans organic semiconductors, artificial retina development, and source-gated transistor technology, contributing to several peer-reviewed publications and international conferences. Before returning to academia, Leslie spent over a decade as a physics teacher and Head of Robotics, guiding students to success in international competitions and pioneering US university admissions programs at independent schools.
Alongside her research, she manages branding and communications for Citywide Financial Partners, where she oversees everything from graphic design and print production to web projects and data reporting—blending technical precision with creative direction.
Outside of work, Leslie has four grown children and values strong family ties. She is an avid sailor with thousands of nautical miles of cruising experience, enjoys a daily run, and has recently returned to playing the flute—now performing regularly with a local community orchestra.
